Filipino Catholics attend Chalice of Salvation Mass

SPRINGFIELD — The Chalice of Salvation, which airs Sundays at 10 a.m. on WWLP-TV22, hosts many groups each week. Recently Filipino Catholics from the diocese attended and brought great joy and spirit to the celebration.

Olivia Strohman, of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Springfield, helped organize the group and worked with Passionist Brother Terrence Scanlon, the Chalice host.

The Filipino Catholics meet regularly for prayer and hold events to support charities in their native land. Olivia’s son, Oliver Awat, a 2011 graduate of Cathedral High School, organized a collection of school supplies for a school in Mindora. The drive continues through Mt. Carmel Parish.

Father William Hamilton, chairman of the diocesan Liturgical Commission, was the celebrant.

Filling the pews

Smiles abounded as many filled the pews and prepared to participate in the television Mass. Young and old brought praise to God. Enjoy the photos from Olivia below to see a wonderful worship experience.

Making time for their faith.

A small reception followed the Mass -- yum!
